The Roof Luxor Restaurant Reviews

The Roof’ offers spectacular views of Luxor Temple and across the Nile over
to the West Bank (not the easiest of places to find) located on the top floor
above Snacktime. We enjoyed a relaxing hour sipping chilled fruit juices but
sadly we didn’t partake of the food on offer due to a prior engagement, however,
with the mouth-watering aromas drifting over from the grill it was certainly
very tempting.

An ideal place for a chilled drink and photo opportunities.  We didn’t
eat on this occasion so are unable to give a review other than to say many
customers seemed to be enjoying the food and it smelt divine.

“This place is well worth a visit, it’s like a traditional Egyptian grill shop – but with a higher standard acceptable to tourists. The Chicken was superb and comparable to my favourite local place in Alex, moist – tasty and delicious, the meat dishes looked just as delicious and the price was excellent and all that with a fantastic view…. more ”

“7th October 2008. We visited the Roof at Snacktime, for the third time in the last month, at 8.30pm. We were attended by a waiter within a few minutes, he just gave us enough time to get settled in. As we both had an idea of what we fancied, the order was placed in a minute or so. I asked… more ”

Tutti Frutti Tearoom Luxor Restaurant Reviews

Although not officially a restaurant, I felt we could not
leave out this lovely little tea room when doing our reviews.  Just along
the road from the St Joseph, the tea room open from first thing in the morning
until early evening is spotlessly clean and well decorated.  Delicious
paninis and homemade coleslaw, cheesecake, the best apple pie in Luxor and a
cracking cup of tea, served in a homely relaxed atmosphere.  Thank you
Christine and staff, thoroughly enjoyed our take-away lunch at the airport. See you
again later in the year.

“Yummy .. I’ve travelled to many different countries & frequented many coffee shops/tea rooms, but this ranks the top of them all. It was that good. Newly furbished and immaturely clean, with delicious goodies on offer. From the moment we walked in the door, the service was exceptional. My husband & I just loved the friendly atmosphere and mouth watering… more “

The Lantern Luxor

The Lantern Luxor Restaurant Reviews

Having tried the Lantern on previous trips to Luxor I was surprised this year to
find it not up to the usual standard, all of which was rather embarrassing
having invited along 4 new friends from our hotel.  After singing the
praises of the Lantern the meal overall somewhat of a mixed bag.  The lentil soup
delicious, sea bass and greek salad acceptable, however, the combo platters
(soaked in too much oil) were hardly touched.  The lamb hot pots were
lovely, but it was almost impossible to get a knife
through both the fillet steaks and the steak on the surf and turf, even though
steaks knives had been provided. The wine and deserts were good. Although
too polite to criticise, it was obvious from the amount of food returned to the
kitchen that our guests were not very impressed with the Lantern. Cost
wise, apart from the 1886 restaurant at the Sofitel Old Winter Palace, the bill
was the most expensive of the holiday at just over 950LE.

Due to the inconsistent quality of the food I am no longer comfortable
recommending the Lantern to friends and colleagues.

“Very good welcome, excellent menu including egyptian dishes. Ate there twice and both nights were really good. more ”

“Run by an English lady & her Egyptian hubby. Very friendly, always busy but well organised so if Debbie can’t seat you immediately there’s a comfy sofa to sit on & that’s how I got chatting to some other people & made friends. The food is excellent, with a choice of Egyptian, English & various continental dishes. more ”

“The first night’s food was delicious and the chocolate cheescake was even better but on the second night I was unable to have the salmon so had chicken escalopes which were disappointing and my boyfirned had the steak which was also disapponting-it was large but chewy and a bit undercooked, more quantity than quality-Jewel of the Nile’s steak was much… more ”

“I believe in the motto: “Speak as you find”, the menu at the Lantern includes English & Egyptian food, I tried the fillet steak many times and was good! (Where else can you get this for approx £6?). “Visited The Lantern on my recent trip to Luxor. “I would say the only thing this restaurant has going for it is the fact that you don’t have to walk far from you hotel. The hospitality and food were the biggest disappointment of the holiday. “Had one lunch and one dinner there. The menu is pretty extensive, aimed at Egyptian food which was a nice change (just so many Western resteraunts around!). The resteraunt is very well decorated and equipped – i ate in the open air upstairs both times, would not have fancied being in the downsatirs rooms when crowded. Fruit juices are to… more ”

“Sofra has an atmosphere all of its own. The staff are also very friendly, but what makes the place is the food – high quality Egyptian fare that is really taste. If yuou go to only one restaurant in Luxor make it this one. more ”

“The best way to arrive at and leave this restaurant would be by caleche, adding to the Egyptian atmosphere of your evening. This a traditional Egyptian restaurant, the rooftop floor is just like a scene out of Casablanca (yes, I know Casablanca isn’t in Egypt but…..) and you quite expect to see Humphrey Bogart sitting at one of the tables…. more ”

“We visited Sofra three times during our one-week stay in Luxor. Brilliant authentic food well served and all utterly affordable. We could find nothing to criticise. Open restaurant on first floor is the more atmospheric, but if it really is too hot outside, the airconditioned rooms on the ground floor are great. more ”

“I have eaten here a few times and never been disappointed. The menu is varied and reasonably priced. I have had pigeon, baladi salad, hot&cold mezzes, moussaka, kebabs and a couple of the tagines. “Sofra serves excellent and tasty food in an authentic atmosphere. Try to get a table upstairs. If you go there, I would recommend the TAGIN LAHMA BIL KAWERMA (Veal & pearl onions stewed in a spicy tomato sauce with red peppers & garlic) and the BETINGAN MA’ALOOB (Upside-down fried aubergine casserole cooked with rice & beef).
